About Shiatsu #01

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a Japanese massage therapy which stimulates and balances the body's energy flows.

The treatment takes place on a futon at floor level with the client remaining clothed (loose flexible clothing is best). This enables the practitioner to work with natural leaning pressure and gravity to create a sense of "grounding" and relaxation.

During the session pressure is applied to the body with thumbs, palms, elbows and knees. Gentle stretching and rotations are also used to help loosen any stiff areas.

The effect is soothing, nuturing and rotationg are also used to help loosen any stiff areas.

Each session lasts approximately one hour. The first treatment starts with a detailed consulation of the client's medical history to develop a complete picture of health according to the principles of oriental medicine.

Conditions Shiatsu may help to improve:

  • Backache & muscular pain
  • Tension headaches & migraines
  • Whiplash injuries & neck stiffness
  • Stress & anxiety
  • Depression & bereavement issues
  • Digestive complaints
  • Irregular menstrual cycles & fertility issues

"The Shiatsu treatments I received throughout my pregnancy were invaluable to me. I started having treatments initially for headaches early on & to help with relaxation for some exams during my fifth month. The treatments were very successful, deeply relaxing, energizing & supportive. I had a wonderful pregnancy & believe the Shiatsu contributed to this in a significant way."
